OneYear

GeburtstagsKleidAlba__007

My little girl has so much hand-me-down clothes from her sister, it`s really not necessary to sew for her. Sewing cute little baby-stuff is so hard to resist, if you`ve the sweetest baby girl at home. I can tell you. But I try to be reasonable, resources arn`t endless. Still, from time to time, i make her something. Just something small. For her first birthday, i made her a dress, in one of the most beautiful fabrics i had in my stash. I just felt like wrap this special little lady in love on this day.

GeburtstagsKleidAlba__001

Is it really already one year, that you`re a part of our family? Time flies like I never dared to imagine. I just blinked and the baby days were gone. I try to cherish every moment and every step you take. I try to see the little things to remember them. First move, first time really looking at me, first time holding something, first words, first steps. Big and small things. Just our normal ordinary life that is so extraordinary beautiful since you and your big sister make our days. You are so welcome. My heart burst with love every time i look at you.

Things you love: Climbing, moving and walking. You`re a brave one, always ready to take the risk. You`re not complaining if you fall, you get up and try again. Sometimes my heart skip a beat if I left you out of sight for a few seconds, you`re so fast. I`m always ready to safe you. But you know so well what you want. And you`ll tell everybody. You can be so loud. Crazy. You love to watch your big sister. She`s your hero. You try to do everything she does. You like to hold hands if you sleep and there is nothing more beautiful than to watch you sleeping. I could look at you forever. Your skin is so soft i could kiss you the whole day. You`ve humor, you like to make fun of us. You love to fly and giggle very hard.

I`m so happy to be your mum. I love you more than I can say.

Happy Birthday my Love

Origami Double Gauze Quilt

quilt__001

My Girl asked for a Blanket, as a Birthday gift. And who am I, to say no to such a request. I`m not a quilter. The only quilts, I ever made, are small babyquilts. Nothing to compare. This one had to be big. Big enough to snuggle down in it. I decided to go with a size 135 cm of 200 cm. A good choice.

quilt__004

I wanted it to be soft and fluffy. Double gauze it had to be. A double gauze quilt will never be as perfect as one sewn in quilting cotton. But I don`t mind. The gorgeous material makes more than up for that. Just relax and enjoy sewing. Double gauze has a mind on his own.

quilt__002

The Pattern I used is self-made. Actually, it`s an origami of a flapping bird. I used the crease lines as a guide. Normally, origami is a square, right? I divided the square in 4 parts and used two of them again on the bottom. See what I did here? That was my template.

quilt__011

And you can laugh now, but I really found a paper big like this and made a giant origami bird. The same size as my blanket. No idea how real Quilter would do that.

quilt__003

The back of my quilt is a beautiful linen in the same color as the binding. Between a soft, thick cotton batting. I used temporary spray adhesive, to hold everything in place while sewing. This was a game changer. Not one single pucker on the underside. I never got such a neat result when I used safety pins.

quilt__005

I just stitched in the ditch to quilt the layers together. First to keep the softness and as a bonus I have the nice origami pattern on the underside as well.

quilt__006

I think quilting wan`t be a new hobby of mine. But my first quilt experience is rather positive! I must say, I love the result a lot! And so does she! She was so proud and happy when she finally received her blanket made specially for her. In her favorite colors. She`s convinced that the quilt is able to charm her while sleeping. And it surely does. It`s made out of love! Love in every stitch.

A Birthday without a special dress, incredible. I had to try the super cute just knot it dress by Mind the Whale. I used Naniiro scraps from the quilt for the bodice and linen for the skirt. There`s too much bulk inside the waistband that`s bothering me a bit. I should have cut it down properly. But still I think she looks really sweet in it.

quilt__008

A very beautiful pattern! The fit is spot on and it`s nicely finished on the inside as well. One to set on your to sew list!

quilt__009

Maybe there`ll be an other quilt in the future. It`s so satisfying. Never say never.

Louisa + Giveaway

Nella__002

A princess seam dress isn`t something, you gonna sew for yourself while having a big baby bump, right? I really felt the urge, to sew the Louisa for Women, when it was released last fall. But don`t worry, I stayed down-to-earth and didin`t sew one for myself. Instead, it happened that my mum`s Birthday was just around that time… that`s how it came, that she has a Louisa by now. It was my Birthday present for her.

Nella__006

I initially planned to sew a winter version with 3/4 sleeves, but with summer just around the corner (you see how long it took me to finish this dress), I decided to skip them. The dress is fully lined in the same shade of the rosa like the flowers. Because it is a gift and should be something special, i went for all the nice (and time-consuming) finishing touches, everything is under-stitched, the hem is hand-sewn i added sideseam pockets and so on. I hope she`ll love this dress for a long time. I really loved to sew it, it`s beautifully drafted!

Nella__003Nella__001

Mum picked the Naniiro, on the middle panel, out of my stash. The color, really suits her well, don`t you think? As you can`t patternmatch princess seams, I was worried the print will be really nervous splinted up by the seamlines. I suggested, to combine it with the beautiful Fuwari Naniiro. I love to touch this brushed cotton, it`s so soft, amazing to work with!

Nella__005

My mum has a small frame. I sewed a size 32 and still had to take in 1.5 cm at the sideseam around the bust. I shortened the dress about 8cm to her preferred length. No other changes were necessary. In my eyes, the fit is perfect. She seems to feel good in her new dress and i feel good every time she chooses to wear it.

To make you feel good, I`m going to Give-away one gorgeous Paperpattern of the Louisadress for women by Compagnie-M. Just leave me a nice Comment how you feel about sewing for loved ones. I`ll randomly choose a winner next Monday 20/6/16. International entries are very welcome!

I was a happy one who had the honor to test the new Pattern by Straight-grain. The Ishi is a simple A-line dress, with princess seams and big pockets. Easy to sew, comfy to wear and endless options to explore. This is going to be a favorite staple dress.

Ishi_2_004

Ishi_2_002

This is a size 18 Months, it fits her perfectly.

I also sewed a size 2 Y for her, there is a bit more room to grow. Do you see what I mean? It was my fault. She`s just between the two sizes, i don`t now what i had in mind while choosing the size. Doesn`t matter. I`ll sew a few more Ishis for sure.

Ishitest_005

The pattern comes with beautiful and easy to follow graphics. If you`re a beginning seamstress don`t worry with the tips and tricks An provides, you`ll be able to sew this dress! If you`re a more experienced sewer, you`ll stich it up in like no time.

Ishi_2_007

Pockets, yes big pockets. You can imagine what you`ll find in them every evening. The treasures of the day, always a nice surprise!

Ishi_2_006

A few chances were made to the pattern. I added a rolled-up effect to the short sleeves and I sewed in a visible zipper instead of an invisible (they always bite the dust so fast).

Fabrics: Side Panel: Naniiro (Mondaysmilk), Front Panel: Soft cactus (locally) Pockets: Silver linen (locally)

The pattern is sold in the Straight-grain shop for $10, use the code LAUNCH15 for a 15% off (expires May 22).
