Jaanu Blog Tour

Januu__001

Today i`m part of the Jaanu Blog Tour. You`ve surely already seen the new pattern, An of Straight Grain just released. Actually, it`s a two in one pattern and a collaboration between Twee Emmerkes Water and Straight Grain.

The first version the Elena is a A line dress with 4 box pleats and the Norah which is more a party dress with 6 box pleats.

Have a look at the funny little video!

I`ll present you my version of the Norah dress which I sewed during the pattern-test.

You probably ask yourself, why I did`t iron before the photo shoot. I can tell you, I really made desperate efforts! What you see is the best result I could achieve. The fabric seems to crease really easily. Fabrics are cotton solids from Micheal Miller bought at Petit Couture. The striped one is from Petit Pan found at Petit Pan in Antwerpen.

Januu__006

I sewed a size 18 Months without adjusting anything. The fit is perfect. To get the striped look, I just cut the pattern apart exactly on the lines who indicate the box pleats and sewed everything back together (be sure to add seam allowance!). A bit of work but a fun result.

Wanna know why she standing still for a few seconds?

Januu__007

Yes, chocolates. Now chance to get pictures of this little princess without a sweetener.

Ishi Blogtour

Ishi_2_003

I was a happy one who had the honor to test the new Pattern by Straight-grain. The Ishi is a simple A-line dress, with princess seams and big pockets. Easy to sew, comfy to wear and endless options to explore. This is going to be a favorite staple dress.

Ishi_2_004

Ishi_2_002

This is a size 18 Months, it fits her perfectly.

I also sewed a size 2 Y for her, there is a bit more room to grow. Do you see what I mean? It was my fault. She`s just between the two sizes, i don`t now what i had in mind while choosing the size. Doesn`t matter. I`ll sew a few more Ishis for sure.

Ishitest_005

The pattern comes with beautiful and easy to follow graphics. If you`re a beginning seamstress don`t worry with the tips and tricks An provides, you`ll be able to sew this dress! If you`re a more experienced sewer, you`ll stich it up in like no time.

Ishi_2_007

Pockets, yes big pockets. You can imagine what you`ll find in them every evening. The treasures of the day, always a nice surprise!

Ishi_2_006

Ishi_2_001

A few chances were made to the pattern. I added a rolled-up effect to the short sleeves and I sewed in a visible zipper instead of an invisible (they always bite the dust so fast).

Fabrics: Side Panel: Naniiro (Mondaysmilk), Front Panel: Soft cactus (locally) Pockets: Silver linen (locally)

The pattern is sold in the Straight-grain shop for $10, use the code LAUNCH15 for a 15% off (expires May 22).

Paris je t`aime – GIVEAWAY

11194465_10152846890178806_1858909205232933357_o

The weekend in Paris is already over, but I still remember how nervous I`ve been the days before. Retrospective, I do not know why. I went to Paris, to meet a few strangers who all share the same passion for sewing. I arrived said hello to everyone and I started to feel like meeting friends I`ve known for a long time. You have to know, I`m shy. Really. I like it, if i can sit on a table and just listen to all the other people without having to say anything. I can do so a whole evening. That`s me. But those ladies made me feel so welcome. It was a great experience! Thanks to everyone who made this weekend so special to me!

From the left, behind: Marte from Compagnie M. Miren from Solo Sewing, Gioja from Dottasews, Annika from Näh-Connection, Marta from Do Guincho, Maartje from Huisje Boompje Boefjes, Sophie from C’est la vie, Nienke from Pienkel, Victoria from As it Seams, Laura from Craftstorming.

Front from the left: Maria from La Inglesita, me with my little bean, Laura from Behind the Hedgerow, An from Straight Grain, Olu from Needle and Ted.

Here we are (An, Annika, me, Marta, Marte, Gioja, Olu) after a few hours of fabric shopping around Montmartre. Marte was my companion during this afternoon. She really is amazing. I appreciate her a lot! We had such a blast to rummage in all those beautiful fabrics. And we found a few treasures…

You can have a closer look at my findings on Instagram.

Saudade for Summer

Mountain-View_004

Actually, I wanted to use all the nani IRO in my stash for myself. A lot of selfish sewing. I was rather counting on that. But I rarely sew for myself and this fabric seamed to be just the perfect choice for this little dress. Anyway, the piece I purchased from Miss Matatabi was so small, it was exactly enough for this project. I don`t need to justify myself. I have to make a little effort, one of the next project`s will be just for me. I`ll try hard, but don`t quote me on that.

Mountain-View_001Mountain-View_002

The pattern I used is the new Saudade dress by Straight Grain. Saudade is Portuguese for feelings of nostalgia and melancholy. That fits perfectly as i`m longing for summer. The pattern is for free and it`s made with the same care as you would expect it from a Straight Grain pattern. An, tried a new form of tutorial, it`s made with illustrations rather than with pictures. I like that! It looks much cleaner and it`s easier to understand. How do you feel about that? Do you prefer pictures or illustrations?

Mountain-View_006

The fabric is Nani Iro Mountain view from Miss Matatabi. I can warmly recommend her shop. Nani Iro is so soft and cloud like as just double gauze can be. It`s gorgeous. I`m totally into it!

Mountain-View_005Mountain-View_007The straps are made from zpagetti, i`ve woven a herringbone plait.

Mountain-View_003

I love this dress. Sadly, she can`t wear it without anything underneath. This summer is unusual cold and rainy. I mean, we don`t expect a lot from summer here, in switzerland. But I can`t remember a year that worse. I hope at least to get a few sunny days before the season ends. That would be nice. On the positive side, in this case, my little bean burger would have enough summer dresses to wear. I can`t stop myself sewing sweet little dresses and dreaming of warm and sunny days.

Reversible wrap vest

Hanami_Weste_003This cute wrap vest was an other make of kids clothes week, I didn`t find the time to blog about during the week. It`s also a pattern hack of the Hanami dress by Straight Grain.

Hanami_Weste_001 The nice print is from michael miller. And lucky me, I found just the perfect shade of blue in my stash, to suit the tinny dots in the print. I don`t know why, I didn`t take some pictures of the reverse side.

Hanami_Weste_002

It`s such a convenient piece of clothing. It already got a lot of use. I like the colors. And it`s perfect for cooler summer evenings. It`s warm around the waist because of the two layers. It`s suitable over a dress or just a tee or even over a onesies. It makes every outfit looking so darling. Don`t you think?

If you`re looking for a free pattern like this one, have a look at Craftiness is not optional. I`ve been inspired by, but my printer was out-of-order. Therefor, I had to do it myself.

Hanami Flip

Hanami_Pulli_001That`s my kcw project nr. 2. Better late than never.

And this is probably the first picture of our fourth family member on this blog. Isn`t she darling? My little girl really love her `big sister`. We had so much fun taking this pictures.

Hanami_Pulli_002

But back to the sewing. The sweater it`s made by the Hanami Pattern from An of Straight Grain. It`s a little flip. The original version of the Hanami top has a crossed back option. I altered the pattern, so this sweet little detail appears on the front now. The long sleeves are also a personal addition. I`m really happy with the fit of this versatile pattern. I`ve already made a classic one, have a look here. And an other flip i`m going to blog about the next days.

The fabric I used is simply apples by Hamburger Liebe. It`s so soft and nice. I had it in my stash like forever. Just didn`t know what to do with it. It`s such a strong print. But I think that fabric was just waiting for this project.

Hanami_Pulli_003

Of course, she had to try this gross bone in the end. At least the part who wasn`t already processed by our dog.

Hanami Dress

ImageToday I wanna share a special dress with you. The pattern is made by Straight Grain. You can purchase your copies here. You should definitely check out her  blog, and of curse her shop. Love the stuff she`s doing. So I had to try my hand on one of her patterns. All of them are cute but I wanted to sew a Hanami. The Hanami top and dress is a versatile sewing pattern. You can choose between different collar, sleeve and back options. And that`s what I did. I made a color blocking version, because I wanted a Peter Pan collar and a crossed back. This to options you can`t mix. So I decided to go for the crossed back, and instead of the collar, I just inserted one in the color blocking as you can see in the pictureImage

In place of sleeves, I attached  self-made piping, same for the waistline. ImageAnd that’s how id looks in the back. Sweet, ins`t it? For an easy closure, I attached some vintage snaps I found in a secondhand shop. They look like a pearl button. In my eyes it`s a nice match with this awesome micheal miller fabric.

ImageI really enjoyed sewing this dress. The pattern comes with clear instructions and a lot of useful sewing tips for a nice and clean finish.
